Articles of Faith

Charm Bracelet

This was one of my girls’ favorite Activities. For this activity you need:

Bracelet Chain

Closures

A selection of charms (beads, button, baubles)

Needle nose pliers

Jump-rings

One of the goals in the Faith in God award is to memorize the Articles of Faith.

I measure their wrist, add a closure, and then they receive a “charm” for every

Article they pass off. I keep the bracelets in an envelope and they get to take them

home when they pass them all off. For those girls who go on to the next class before

they have earned all the charms, I give their bracelets and the rest of their charm with

the jump-rings to attach them to their moms so they can keep working on it and get it

when they are done.*

*Be sensitive to those girls who struggle with memorizing. This activity is to encourage them to finish, not discourage them.

Book of Mormon

Written Testimony

The girls need to write down their testimony for one of their goals. We did this by covering the inexpensive Book of Mormons from the Distribution Center with cute

Scrapbook paper, making a small hole in the right hand side-middle and then attaching a ribbon for closing, a small colorful flower (center removed),one of those tacks that spread in the back and gluing a jewel in the center.

Then you open it up, glue a small bit of paper over the ends of the tack so they won’t poke through, and then cover the inside and back cover of the book with a plain piece of cardstock. The front is dedicated to a small picture of them and their written testimony. The back is reserved (left blank) for their written testimony after they finish reading the Book of Mormon.

You need:

1 paper back Book of Mormon for each girl

8x10 inch scrapbook paper

hot glue gun and glue sticks

27 inches matching gross grain ribbon

flat flower, center remove

the tack

large jewel or button for center of flower

cardstock for the inside covers

Scripture Tote

We made this bag for the girls to put their Book of Mormon, Faith in God book, and journal in. You can make it out of a pretty place mat or 19 by 13 inch piece of fabric

and one yard of heavy ribbon. If using a place mat, lay flat and arrange ribbon in a loop around to make handles and over lap on bottom. Sew sides together and sew a across bottom (seam makes a triangle) that is 3 inches across.

Picture Frame

For this activity, I bought small wooden frames from the dollar store. They should be flat and undecorated. You can cut out a mat shape (or even use a mat, if you have one) from card board.

Take the frame apart and then cover it with tiny strips of torn masking tape. The more irregular the pieces are the better. When it is covered completely, pass out latex gloves and let the girls use furniture stain to color the tape.

After it dries (next Activity Day), have the girls pick a picture from a church magazine or the Gospel Art Book (distribution center) and have them cut it out and put it in the frame. Attach it or put the back back on.

Part of this lesson is the girls must tell everyone why they picked that picture and why it is important to them.

For this Activity you need:

Small frame, mat, or card board mat shape

Masking tape

Furnisher stain

Latex gloves

Old shirts for aprons

Books to cut pictures out of

Journals

Composite Notebook for each girl

Scrap book paper

Card stock

Glue gun

Stick glue

Tacky glue

Two sided tape

I covered the note books myself, and then let the girls embellish them.

After they have embellished the out side I have them put their name, age,

and a picture on the inside cover.

In the Faith in God for Girls Book on page for there is a list of thing to do

to help them keep their baptismal covenants and to keep spiritually strong.

At the top of the first page, I had them write in their own hand:

My name The Date

To help me keep my baptismal covenants and stay spiritually strong,

I will:

1. Pray daily to Heavenly Father
2. Read the scriptures
3. Keep the commandments
4. Honor my parents
5. Be kind to my family and everybody else
6. Pay tithing
7. Attend Sacrament and Primary regularly
